The Renault 5 Turbo 1 (R8220), launched in 1980, is a sports version of the Renault 5 with a turbo engine mounted at the rear for better balance. It is distinguished by its widened wings and its aggressive design. Very high-performance, it has left its mark on rallies, particularly in the WRC. The Renault 5 Turbo 2 (R8220), introduced in 1983, is a more accessible version with a turbo engine. It retains the sporty characteristics of the Turbo 1 but with simplified finishes. The Turbo 2 continued to be a key model in competitions and maintained the heritage of the Renault 5 Turbo range.
