Dauphine

A bit of history about the Renault Dauphine

The Renault Dauphine (R1090), launched in 1956, was the successor to the famous Renault 4CV. Equipped with the Ventoux engine, an improved version of the air-cooled rear engine, the Dauphine offered reliable performance and increased driving comfort. It was available in two versions: the non-aerostable version, with a more classic design, and the aerostable version, characterized by its aerodynamics to improve road holding. The range was enriched with sporty and elegant versions, such as the Dauphine Gordini (R1091, R1093, R1095), which brought improvements in terms of performance, and the Dauphine Ondine (R1090 A), offering more refined interior equipment. The Dauphine Export (R1094), meanwhile, was specifically designed for international markets. Initially equipped with a 6-volt electrical system, the Dauphine evolved to a 12-volt system, thus increasing the electrical reliability of the car.
